When I graduated from Cambridge in 2015 I wanted to use my science background to produce something that genuinely added to the canon of the drinks market.

After seeing what a new generation of makers were doing with honey in the US I recognized an opportunity to create a mead that had all the subtly and sophistication of the best wines on offer.

Teaming up with winemakers at Denbies Estate in Dorking and tapping into the excitement around English wines, I produced Crowded Hive’s first vintage in summer 2015. Using orange blossom, honey fermented just off-dry and oaked, our first wine has a fresh and vital taste that makes it ideal for drinking on its own or in a spritzer over summer.
